The original movie style marriage between actresses and designers, was mastered in the beautiful relationship between Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy. Givenchy was a designer who worked with and won the trust of some of the greatest designers.
Cristobel Balenciaga demonstrated that by giving Givenchy unrestricted access to his workshop. His designs was focused on simplicity giving more subtle fits. When Audrey and Givenchy first met, Audrey was still a rising star, but even then she knew Givenchy was the designer for her.
After some convincing Givenchy designed Audrey’s outfits for the movie Sabrina, which included the famous gown that has shops making bateau necklines to this day. Audrey was completely loyal to her dear friend and was quoted saying “His are the only clothes in which I am myself”, and would wear his clothes on and off screen.
Boundaries were broken for the sake of this matchup with Audrey signing contracts that stated Givency as her designer. The dedication also gave Givenchy his platform to make his mark on the face of fashion.
